Southern Striders Athletic Club is a small and informal running club in Rondebosch, Cape Town. We get together every Tuesday and Thursday at 18h00 at the Rondebosch Golf Club in Mowbray. If you are interested in running with us, come and join us for a run and see if you would like to join.
You can join as a social member if you want to run or walk with the club but don’t want to participate in races, or you can join as a registered runner to participate in races.
How to become a registered runner
To become a registered runner, you will first need to join the club (you can’t have a Western Province Athletics license without belonging to a running club), and then register with Athletics South Africa:
The Western Province Athletics race number is purchased directly from Southern Striders and Southern Striders will verify your membership and race number on the ASA site.
If you are currently a member of a running club and wish to move to a new club, you would have to contact your current Club Administrator with a request to change your status to "Transfer" on the ASA website.
Fee Structure SSAC membership fee is R250 per year WPA licence fee is R140 per year Total : R390 per annum; or R250 for social members. There is a R30 discount per member for families who join together.
There is no membership fee for juniors. WPA licence fee for a junior is R30. Please note that WPA will only issue a junior licence upon receipt of the junior's ID or birth certificate.
Payment must be made via EFT to Southern Striders, or alternatively in cash to the Treasurer at the club.
Southern Striders Race Kit
You will need to purchase the Southern Striders race kit – a SSAC running vest and a red shorts – to participate in races. The vests are available from the club at R180. The shorts are available through retail and online outlets. Information available upon request.
It is not permissible to run in casual gear with a WPA license.
